Breakthrough Operation to Remove Cancer
Dune Medical Devices, an Atlanta startup, is currently working on eradicating the need for more than one operation to remove cancer from the body. Through physics and an algorithm, Founder Dan Hashimshony, discovered how to differentiate between healthy tissue and cancerous tissue. A Series C round of funding has brought Dune Medical Devices a total of $35 million to continue company growth and expansion in the Atlanta area. Get the full story.

Is Netflix on the Decline?
According to the Wall Street Journal, Netflix has experienced a decline of new subscribers; the first time in nearly a decade. Several comparable services from Walt Disney, Apple, At&T’s WarnerMedia and Comcast’s NBCUniversal plan to hit the market place soon, which some believe might be the cause for decline. This Atlanta-based startup that offers automated testing for applications in web browsers has raised $9 million in a Series A round. OneTrust
This Atlanta-based data privacy startup just closed a $200 million series A investment led by Insight Partners, and is now valued at a whopping $1.3 billion. OneTrust is one step ahead of the competition by already being proactive with future privacy laws to come in upcoming years, and finding ways for companies to stay compliant within those privacy and security laws. DefenseStorm
According to Atlanta Inno, a cloud-based cybersecurity firm, DefenseStorm was able to raise $15 million in a Series A round with the help of lead investor, Georgian Partners. The company plans to invest in the growth of the teams tech practitioners and add approximately 25 new hires to their team.

Two Major Grants to Further Research
Sun Joo “Grace” Ahn, an associate professor of advertising at the University of Georgia, was recently awarded $3.3 million from the National Institute of Health to further her research on the benefits of virtual reality and children. Next, The National Science Foundation granted $4 million to support the South Big Data Innovation Hub. The organization helps 16 southern states and the District of Columbia use data science and engineering to address critical societal needs.

Techstars Atlanta announces their fourth cohort, proving the regions potential for fast-growing companies. A total of ten startups will be focusing the next several months on growing their businesses, with hopes of solving real problems people face in their day to day lives. Get the full story.

Atlanta will be the next home for one of the fastest-growing health IT providers, Edifecs. The new East Coast headquarters plan to hire up to 200 new employees over the next 3 to 5 years. Edifecs has a global reach, covering 215 million lives by providing healthcare systems, health insurers, pharmacy benefit managers and others through new technology in North America, Europe and Asia.
Amazon
Amazon plans to build a new 700,000 square foot fulfillment center in Gwinnett and DeKalb counties, which will focus on packing and shipping customer orders. The new facility plans to bring 1,000 new jobs, such as, human resources, operations management, safety, security, finance, and information technology.
